Welcome to a land of green woods, fields of wheat and sunflowers, poppies, silvery olive groves, blue skies and gentle, rolling hills; a place scented by freshly mown hay, flowers and ripe fruit, flavoured with the tang of Umbrian olive oil and the mouth-filling richness of our local wines. A place of bells at midday, cock-crow at dawn and the chirping of cicadas during the hot summer days.

It's a tranquil and secluded place, but not remote or isolated.
Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, is less than 10 km away. Its atmosphere of peace and spirituality extends to our place also. Here St. Francis made his sermon to the birds exactly in the place where now an altar stands in the shade of trees at Piandarca. Giotto illustrated this event in a famous fresco to be seen in the Upper Basilica of Assisi.

Collemancio is a tiny village 2 km north of our house. Next to Collemancio there are the ruins of an ancient Roman municipium (Urvinum Hortense). From its splendid position, all the Tiber Valley can be seen with views over Spoleto, Trevi, Montefalco, Bevagna, Foligno, Spello, Assisi, Santa Maria degli Angeli and Perugia. Our house enjoys a similar panorama.
