Who we are

Welcome to a land of green woods, fields of wheat and sunflowers, poppies, silvery olive groves, blue skies and gentle, rolling hills; a place scented by freshly mown hay, flowers and ripe fruit, flavoured with the tang of Umbrian olive oil and the mouth-filling richness of our local wines. A place of bells at midday, cock-crow at dawn and the chirping of cicadas during the hot summer days.

It's a tranquil and secluded place, but not remote or isolated.
Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, is less than 10 km away. Its atmosphere of peace and spirituality extends to our place also. Here St. Francis made his sermon to the birds exactly in the place where now an altar stands in the shade of trees at Piandarca. Giotto illustrated this event in a famous fresco to be seen in the Upper Basilica of Assisi.

Collemancio is a tiny village 2 km north of our house. Next to Collemancio there are the ruins of an ancient Roman municipium (Urvinum Hortense). From its splendid position, all the Tiber Valley can be seen with views over Spoleto, Trevi, Montefalco, Bevagna, Foligno, Spello, Assisi, Santa Maria degli Angeli and Perugia. Our house enjoys a similar panorama.

It was converted from an old granary, hay-loft and hut which were in danger of falling into ruins, and rebuilt in the style of a traditional farmhouse, with an outside flight of steps and a balcony, painted in the typical yellow of the Umbrian countryside.
It offers accommodation in six delightful self-catering apartments.
The house is simple but comfortable, suitable for those seeking authenticity at affordable prices; ideal for those who think, as we do, that the values and pleasures of life are connected with open spaces, quiet, time, unspoiled nature.

At Nonna Rana you will find the comfort, freedom and privacy of your home, but you will also discover enchanting new places, customs, traditions, foods and scenery.
There is a swimming pool, a green area with barbecue, tables and chairs and a children's playground.
Children are our favourite guests.
We devote all our care and love to them. They will have a friend to play with: our son Richard, 13 years old.
There are walks over paths, fields and woods. A few minutes' drive away you can practise your favourite sports (tennis, horse riding, golf, fishing, clay-pigeon shooting).

During your stay, you can sample the olive oil of our land, the vegetables of our garden, the fruits of our orchard and discover the ancient tastes of our farming tradition (home-made pasta, torta al testo - a flatbread -). You can be showen how to prepare those simple foods, a habit for us, an agreeable discovery for you.
You will be free to plan your day without haste, go out in the morning to explore the natural and artistic beauties of our land, returning at night to relax in your apartment.
The house is a superb base for day trips all over Umbria - as you can see from a glance at the map. If you want to go further afield, Florence, Rome and the Adriatic are about one and a half hours away.

We hope to welcome you soon. We suggest that you choose, if you can, the months of April, May, June, September, October and December to get the most out of your holiday in Umbria.
